Room 21

Prehistory and Ancient History

This room shows primarily archaeological finds from the town area and the neighbourhood of Traben-Trarbach. Here you can find an extensive collection of minerals and various tools – especially hand axes of different sizes – from prehistoric and ancient times. In addition, the visitor can discover various relicts from Roman and Celtic times. There is a replic of a “Regenbogenschüsselchen” ( rainbow bowl ), a precious Celtic coin ( the original is exposed in the Landesmuseum Trier ) as well as a well preserved “Napoleonhut” ( a grind stone made of basalt from the Eifel region). All these pieces deserve your special attention. On top of that, some more showcases deal with the history of Starkenburg and the former mining industry in the Kautenbach valley.
